What is Corrosion


Corrosion is chemical action which causes destruction of the surface of a metal by oxidation or chemical combination.Corrosion Engineering has become an important area of expertise in Engineering Industry.
There are several ways of combating corrosion of which most contemporary,cost effective and advanced,clean and with least environmental and health hazards is the usage of Volatile Corrosion inhibitors also known as VCI Technology.

Causes of Corrosion



Container Rain

Changes in temperature during the seal causes sudden evaporation and condensation called as Container rain ranging upto 100% humidity inside container.
Acidic sea humidity causes reaction with metal at much faster rate than components lying in factory floor,Corrosion Engineering makes it possible to decide,use and implement a complete system to counteract the adverse sea conditions.



Plastics are H2O Permeable  

LDPE, HDPE etc have porosity of water also termed as Water Vapour Transmission Rate to the extent of 4 gm/sq m/24 hours.
This phenomenon is often called breathing of plastics.Plastic only act as a barrier o high amount of humidity entering packaging but is not a full proof system.
To make this full proof chemicals need to be present in the packaging to continuously react with moisture and neutralized it.




Humidity in Boxes

Starch present in boxes is hygroscopic. It absorbs moisture present in the atmospheric to a tune of 15-60% of the weight of corrugation.Under ambient conditions,the moisture levels absorbed in corrugation are always  more than 15%.Once the temperature in the container rises,he moisture is released to surrounding metal (being cooler).

What Is Moisture?

Humidity is the amount of moisture the air can hold before it rains. Moisture refers to the presence of a liquid, especially water, often in trace amounts. Small amounts of water may be found, for example, in the air (humidity) and in various commercial products.

What is Moisture Absorbent?

A desiccant is a hygroscopic substance that induces or sustains a state of dryness (desiccation) in its local vicinity in a moderately well-sealed container. A humectant is also a hygroscopic substance, but it is used to help a product retain water. Humectants are frequently used in food and cosmetic products. Glycerin is often used as a humectant.
Commonly encountered pre-packaged desiccants are solids which work through absorption or adsorption of water, or a combination of the two. Desiccants for specialized purposes may be in forms other than solid, and may work through other principles, such as chemical bonding of water molecules. Pre-packaged desiccants are most commonly used to remove excessive humidity that would normally degrade or even destroy certain products which are sensitive to moisture. Some commonly used desiccants are: silica gel, activated charcoal, calcium sulfate, calcium chloride, Monticello clay, and molecular sieves.

Moisture Control in Products

Control of moisture in products can be a vital part of the process of the product. There is a substantial amount of moisture in what seems to be dry matter. During the ocean transport or storage, the big temperature changes between day and night on the sea make the high-temperature air in the day full of water saturate because of the falling temperature at night...As a result, the goods usually experience the marine high-temperature climate and comparatively big changes of temperature between day and night which often vary from 0 centigrade to 8 centigrade, with the humidity being able to reach 98%. This phenomenon is called condensation. The amount of water in the air is 30.4G / M3, when the temperature is 30 centigrade. When the temperature drops from 30 centigrade to 10 centigrade, the amount of water vapor will drop to 15.4G / M3. While the other steam will condemn to water. This is the usually-called rain in the container, which has a bad influence on the packing. Therefore, a certain amount of desiccants should be used to solve this problem.

What is Emitter?

Emitter is specially formulating multi functional pouches to control the relative humidity in the enclosed container system where damp environment can cause problems.  Emitters are used to protect enclosed metal components (parts or systems made of various metals) from corrosion by placing one or more of the devices in a container, package or other enclosure. The absorbed moisture is also neutralized to prevent corrosion.

Shrink Film or Shrink Wrap



Shrink film or Shrink wrap is a material made up of plastic film. When heat is applied, it shrinks tightly over whatever it is covering. Heat can be applied with a heat gun or the product and film can pass through a heat tunnel.

The mostly used shrink film is polyolefin. It is available in a variety of clarities, thicknesses , strengths and shrink ratios. 
A shrink film can be made to shrink in one direction like unidirectional or mono-directional, it can also made in both directions like bidirectional.


Films are stretched when users are warm to orient the molecules from their initial random pattern. Cooling the film sets the film's characteristics, this causes it to shrink back toward its initial dimensions.


How to Use Shrink Film or Shrink Wrap



Shrink wrap is applied over the object or item, using by equipment. It is then warmed using of a heat gun or sent into a shrink tunnel or oven.

Shrink wrap can be supplied in several forms. Flat roll stock can be wrapped around a product, often with heat sealing to tack the film together. Center folded film is supplied on a roll with the plastic is folded in half: product is placed in the center portion, the remaining three edges are sealed to form a bag, and the package then heated which causes the bag to shrink and conform to the product placed in the bag. Pre-formed shrink bags plastic bags are used with one end open: the product is placed in the bag, sealed, and sent for heat shrinking.

Shrink film is sometimes used to books, Tools, Hardware parts, Equipment etc.
Shrink film is commonly used on many types of packaging, including boxes, cartons, cans, beverage  and pallet. A variety of products may be enclosed in shrink wrap to stabilize the products, unitize them, keep them clean or add tamper resistance. It can be the primary covering for food productrs like Cheese, vegetables, meats, and plants. Heat-shrink tubing is used to seal electric wiring.

Lubricating Oil and difference between 15W40 and 20W40.

Hey Friends!


We are regularly change our bike oil. Mostly our friends suggest us different company names to use their lubricating oil. All oils are intended for an application and in general are not interchangeable. You would not for example put an Automatic Transmission Oil or a Gear Oil in your engine! It is important to know what the oils intended purpose is.

Viscosity


Most oils on the shelves today are Multi grades, which simply means that the oil falls into 2 viscosity grades (i.e. 10w-40 etc)
Multi grades were first developed some 50 years ago to avoid the old routine of using a thinner oil in winter and a thicker oil in summer.
In a 10W-40 for example the 10W bit (W = winter, not weight or watt or anything else for that matter) simply means that the oil must have a certain maximum viscosity/flow at low temperature. The lower the “W” number the better the oils cold temperature/cold start performance.
The 40 in a 10W-40 simply means that the oil must fall within certain viscosity limits at 100 degC. This is a fixed limit and all oils that end in 40 must achieve these limits. Once again the lower the number the thinner the oil, a 30 oil is thinner than a 40 oil at 100 degC etc. Your handbook will specify whether a 30, 40 or 50 etc is required.

Specifications

Specifications are important as these indicate the performance of the oil and whether they have met or passed the latest tests or whether the formulation is effectively obsolete or out of date. There are two specifications that you should look for on any oil bottle and these are API (American Petroleum Institute]) and ACEA (Association des Constructeurs Europeens d’Automobiles) all good oils should contain both of these and an understanding of what they mean is important.

API

This is the more basic as it is split (for passenger cars) into two catagories. S = Petrol and C = Diesel, most oils carry both petrol (S) and diesel (C) specifications.
The following table shows how up to date the specifications the oil are:

PETROL

SG Introduced 1989 has much more active dispersant to combat black sludge
SH Introduced 1993 has same engine tests as SG, but includes phosphorus limit 0.12%, together with control of foam, volatility and shear stability
SJ Introduced 1996 has the same engine tests as SG/SH, but phosphorus limit 0.10% together with variation on volatility limits
SL Introduced 2001, all new engine tests reflective of modern engine designs meeting current emissions standards
SM Introduced November 2004, improved oxidation resistance, deposit protection and wear protection, also better low temperature performance over the life of the oil compared to previous categories
Note:
All specifications prior to SL are now obsolete and although suitable for some older vehicles are more than 10 years old and do not provide the same level of performance or protection as the more up to date SL and SM specifications.

DIESEL

CD Introduced 1955, international standard for turbo diesel engine oils for many years, uses single cylinder test engine only
CE Introduced 1984, improved control of oil consumption, oil thickening, piston deposits and wear, uses additional multi cylinder test engines
CF4 Introduced 1990, further improvements in control of oil consumption and piston deposits, uses low emission test engine
CF Introduced 1994, modernised version of CD, reverts to single cylinder low emission test engine. Intended for certain indirect injection engines
CF2 Introduced 1994, defines effective control of cylinder deposits and ring face scuffing, intended for 2 stroke diesel engines
CG4 Introduced 1994, development of CF4 giving improved control of piston deposits, wear, oxidation stability and soot entrainment. Uses low sulphur diesel fuel in engine tests
CH4 Introduced 1998, development of CG4, giving further improvements in control of soot related wear and piston deposits, uses more comprehensive engine test program to include low and high sulphur fuels
CI4 Introduced 2002, developed to meet 2004 emission standards, may be used where EGR ( exhaust gas recirculation ) systems are fitted and with fuel containing up to 0.5 % sulphur. May be used where API CD, CE, CF4, CG4 and CH4 oils are specified.

Note: All specifications prior to CH4 are now obsolete and although suitable for some older vehicles are more than 10 years old and do not provide the same level of performance or protection as the more up to date CH4 & CI4 specifications.
If you want a better more up to date oil specification then look for SL, SM, CH4, CI4

ACEA

This is the European equivalent of API (US) and is more specific in what the performance of the oil actually is. A = Petrol, B = Diesel and C = Catalyst compatible or low SAPS (Sulphated Ash, Phosphorus and Sulphur).
Unlike API the ACEA specs are split into performance/application catagories as follows:
A1 Fuel economy petrol
A2 Standard performance level (now obsolete)
A3 High performance and/or extended drain
A4 Reserved for future use in certain direct injection engines
A5 Combines A1 fuel economy with A3 performance
B1 Fuel economy diesel
B2 Standard performance level (now obsolete)
B3 High performance and/or extended drain
B4 For direct injection car diesel engines
B5 Combines B1 fuel economy with B3/B4 performance
C1-04 Petrol and Light duty Diesel engines, based on A5/B5-04 low SAPS, two way catalyst compatible.
C2-04 Petrol and light duty Diesel engines, based on A5/B5-04 mid SAPS, two way catalyst compatible.
C3-04 Petrol and light duty Diesel engines, based on A5/B5-04 mid SAPS, two way catalyst compatible, Higher performance levels due to higher HTHS.
Note: SAPS = Sulphated Ash, Phosphorous and Sulphur.
Put simply, A3/B3, A5/B5 and C3 oils are the better quality, stay in grade performance oils.

Approvals

Many oils mention various OEM’s on the bottle, the most common in the UK being VW, MB or BMW but do not be misled into thinking that you are buying a top oil because of this.
Oil Companies send their oils to OEM’s for approval however some older specs are easily achieved and can be done so with the cheapest of mineral oils. Newer specifications are always more up to date and better quality/performance than the older ones.
Some of the older OEM specifications are listed here and depending on the performance level of your car are best ignored if you are looking for a quality high performance oil:
VW – 500.00, 501.00 and 505.00
Later specs like 503, 504, 506 and 507 are better performing more up to date oils
MB – 229.1
Later specs like 229.3 and 229.5 are better performing more up to date oils.
BMW – LL98
Later specs like LL01 and LL04 are better performing more up to date oils.

Finally

Above is the most accurate guidance I can give without going into too much depth however there is one final piece of advice regarding the labelling.
Certain statements are made that are meaningless and just marketing blurb, here are a few to avoid!
Recommended for use where.........
May be used where the following specifications apply..........
Approved by..........(but with no qualification)
Recommended/Approved by (some famous person, these endorsements are paid for)
Racing/Track formula (but with no supporting evidence)
Also be wary of statements like “synthetic blend” if you are looking for a fully synthetic oil as this will merely be a semi-synthetic.
Like everything in life, you get what you pay for and the cheaper the oil the cheaper the ingredients and lower the performance levels.

Difference between 15W40 and 20W40


15w-40 has a cold cranking wieght of 15... (w for winter) and is a 40 weight at operating temp, so it'll flow a little better then the 20w-40. Synthetic oils usually come in a wider range of viscositys like 0w-30, 5w-40 and such. Takes alot... too much volume index improvers and such for conventional, that the oil would go out of grade in no time... different manufacturers have a small difference in wieghts... one may be a high 40 wieght, the other a low 40 weight at operating temp. Just sticking with name brands insure quality.
Only the weight of the oil, 20W40 is thicker than the 15W40, 20W40 is the best oil for the old cars although 15W40 is very easier cold start ...

I-MIX EVA BAG

Rubber compatible bags are specially grade polymer bags used for the addition of solid or liquid chemicals into the rubber during its processing in ban bury or kneaders.
Unlike the usual Polyethylene bags,these special grade polymer used for the manufacture of these bags is highly compatible with rubber and mixes with rubber at normal processing temperatures.Hence this allow for the direct addition of the chemicals included in the bag into the rubber processing systems along with tea bag which mixes with rubber

Applications & Uses

  • Can be used to wrap raw rubber. EVA bags when wrapped on raw rubber prevent dust settlement on rubber. This need not be taken off before usage of rubber.
  • EVA film can be provided on rolls for automatic weigh metric form fill seal machines to make pr weighed chemical sachets and pouches.
  • EVA bags can be used as liners in chemical HDPE bags where the chemical need not be emptied out and can be thrown with the EVA liner into ban bury or other processing equipment.

Engine Oil


Motor oil or engine oil is oil used for lubrication of various internal combustion engines. The main function is to lubricate moving parts; it also cleans, inhibits corrosion, improves sealing, and cools the engine by carrying heat away from moving parts.
          Motor oils are derived from petroleum-based and non-petroleum-synthesized chemical compounds. Motor oils today are mainly blended by using base oils composed of hydrocarbons, polypropylene (PAO), and poly-internal ole-fins (PIO), thus organic compounds consisting entirely of carbon and hydrogen. The base oils of some high-performance motor oils however contain up to 20% by weight of esters.
